Labs Technical Manager: Sept 2005 - Present

Working as part of the Emerging Media team within the Reuters Consumer Media arm. The role of hands on Technical Manager of Reuters Labs involves the management of a team of developers, managing a £250k budget and the architecture and development of new media products and services. Reuters Labs is a sandbox for developing and showcasing new media initiatives into beta services for user feedback and statistical analysis. Reuters Labs focuses the news, pictures and video delivered by Reuters.com to consumers through the Web, Mobile, IPTV platforms.

Innovation Technologist: Jan 2004 – Sept 2005

Working as part of the Reuters Innovative Program to investigate and deliver new innovative concepts and technologies into the Reuters core business segments. The position held consisted of researching and identifying new technology concepts and trends. The work consisted of engaging various architecture, product and capability teams using prototypes and workshops based around scenarios, personas and brainstorms to encourage ideas and involvement. Audio – User centered researched on how people use audio as a passive medium - including usage, demographics and delivery mechanisms. The results identified we could reach consumers through digital media devices and mobile phones at times we previously had no presence - prototyped the first Reuters podcasts. Content Based Routing – Researched emerging technologies based around routing XML content intelligently. Built a number of prototypes to demonstrate the technologies and wrote papers of recommendation for the architecture and content groups.

Search Lead Developer / Architect: Dec 2002 – Jan 2004

The role was that of a Lead Developer / Architect on the Search project, which consisted of designing and developing a Search Capability for Reuters Fundamental and Reference Data (FRD). Working with the Reuters architecture and development group both in the UK and US, as well as the Norwegian based search company, FAST.

Senior Consultant: Dec 1999 – Dec 2002

Joined the Reuters Consulting arm of Reuters and worked as part of the Field Development team as a Senior Consultant Developer. The work consisted of consulting, designing and developing financial systems for clients as part of project based teams. Example: NASDAQ – Worked as part of Reuters team developing the NASDAQ Europe Super Montage Exchange. Primary task was Lead Developer in designing and developing the Java Trading GUI application. The team worked as a client based team located both in London and Palo Alto, CA (US) of which I was based in both.

Symbian, the software licensing company, are the supplier of the advanced, open standard mobile operating system - Symbian OS.

Worked as a Software Developer as part of the Messaging Team. As part of the Messaging team I helped develope the email, SMS, FAX and MMS messaging capabilities for the Symbian OS.

OpenTrade Technologies: Aug 1997 – July 1999

OpenTrade Technologies were a company that provided complete Trading solutions to their customers; data feeds, platform and a desktop suite of applications. Joined OpenTrade as part of the OpenTrade graduate scheme after graduating from University. Become an established and respected member of the Desktop Development team. The role consisted of adding new and enhancing existing functionality and developing numerous stand alone applications.

I enjoy researching and understanding new technologies and always have projects on the go at home as well as attending the New York Tech Meetups. I like to snowboard and I play for a 5-a-side soccer team as well as visiting the gym. I also like traveling and socializing.
